October 7th, 2009

Hello!
What an amazing couple of days it has been. School started on Monday and has been great, incredibly intensive, but great. We usually start around 11am and go until at least 5pm with an hour off for lunch. When I get back to my flat I usually have enough time to sit down and do my homework, have a light supper and a pot of tea, take a shower and then I am worn out and ready for bed. Last night I was asleep at 8:30! But today has been better. I think I am finally getting into the rhythm of things and now I actually have enough energy to write a little more.
Tomorrow I will have been in Istanbul a week and yet so much has happened that it feels as if it must be longer. I settled in here much faster than I had thought would be possible. I can definitely see myself living here for a very long time. In a lot of ways, I feel a lot safer here than I did back in Muncie or in Syracuse. Although I am a woman alone, I am treated very respectfully and everyone has been very helpful and polite. They seem to get a real kick out of my limited Turkish but are very patient when it comes to communicating. I’m just so glad to be living a life of adventure again.
